EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) or EFT tapping, simply stated, is an emotional version of acupuncture, but without the use of needles. Instead, you tap with your fingertips on key energy meridian points on your face and body.
The mechanical process is easy to memorize and can be done anywhere. The seeming simplicity of the tapping process makes is hard to believe that such amazing results can be achieved with this tool.
Visit EFT Learning to acquaint yourself with the short-cut version of the EFT sequence.
Of course there is much more to EFT tapping than just the physical tapping sequence.
Emotional Freedom Techniques includes many techniques that go along with the tapping like: The Movie Technique, The Story Telling Technique, Borrowing Benefits, Personal Peace Procedure, Breathing Technique and more.
These techniques help clear energy disruptions in our acupuncture meridians that are associated with negative emotions. It is these stuck emotions that anchor past traumas which support our underlying negative beliefs and self images that falsely represent what/who we are and disrupt our inner peace.
The EFT discovery statement is, "The cause of all negative emotions is the disruption of the body's energy system." To understand how emotions get trapped and disrupt the body's energy system go to, How does EFT work?
Even a newcomer can see how effective EFT is just by trying it on a problem that is specific and doing it properly. Great technical skill is not involved.
What is necessary is the turning of our attention to the present moment and the courage to look truthfully into our inner world of emotions and beliefs.
It is a journey of excavating old, non-serving thought patterns, emotional reactions and self-made images and letting them go. From my perspective, it is an amazing tool in our search for truth and Self discovery.
Here are two audio samples of phone EFT sessions, for those of you that are new to EFT. I have permission from my client to publish them. Keep in mind that we are tapping with our fingertips on the EFT acupuncture points as we use words to stay focused on the problem at hand. Feel free to tap along with the audio to "borrow benefits" from this work.

EFT tapping was born with Gary Craig in the 1990's. He developed it after being trained by Dr. Roger Callahan in Thought Field Therapy (TFT).
In 1980, Dr. Callahan discovered the beginning of TFT literally by accident.
He had been trying to help someone clear an intense phobia of water with traditional therapy without success. One day, he happened to be sitting with this individual just a few yards away from a swimming pool.
As he was pondering how her phobia had persisted, it occurred to him to have her tap under her eye with her fingertips. He was remembering that this acupuncture point fell on the stomach acupuncture meridian point where the phobia was experienced by this woman.
To his great amazement, after the woman tapped under her eye she got out of her chair and hurried to the pool, no longer afraid of the water.
Her phobia never returned.
Dr. Callahan then investigated this occurrence and developed Thought Field Therapy (TFT) which uses tapping algorithms (tapping routines to address emotional issues.
After Gary Craig was trained by Dr. Callahan in TFT, he modified what he learned and decided to include all the points in the tapping for all issues, so that it was not necessary to determine which acupuncture points where blocked by that particular issue and the order of the tapping was not essential.
Gary basically simplified and generalized the TFT process and called it "The Basic EFT Recipe". In 1995 Gary made EFT tapping available to therapists and later to the world via the internet.
He generously offered the EFT Handbook free to the public. He also published his EFT Library Training Videos and offered them for sale at his "emofree" website.
Gary emphasizes,
“I am neither a psychologist nor a licensed therapist. Rather, I am a Stanford engineering graduate and an ordained minister and, although we don't pound the table for God here, I do come at this procedure from a decidedly spiritual perspective. My ordained ministry is with the Universal Church of God in Southern California which is non-denominational and embraces all religions. I am an avid student of A Course In Miracles but at no time is any EFT'er asked to follow any specific spiritual teaching. I was born April 13, 1940 and have been intensely interested in personal improvement via psychology since age13. That was when I recognized that the quality of my thoughts was mirrored in the quality of my life. Since then I have been self taught in this field, seeking only those procedures that, in my opinion, produced results. EFT is my latest finding, the core of which I learned from Dr.Roger Callahan. I also have high regard for Neuro Linguistic Programming(NLP) in which I am a Certified Master Practitioner."
The great contribution that Gary is making to what he called the "Healing High Rise", is not yet fully recognized or appreciated by the general public, but I am positive it will be in the future. My deep gratitude goes to him and this work of love.
Gary Craig unexpectedly retired in 2010. Gary, along with his daughter Tina Craig, had just taken over the training and academic certification of the EFT Practitioners when he decided to retire due to health concerns.
As of June, 2012, Gary Craig returned from his retirement adding "Official" to the EFT he offers the public; and in May, 2014, Gary announced the development of (Spiritual) Optimal EFT.
There is no actual tapping involved in Optimal EFT, rather, the "Unseen Therapist" or Holly Spirit is invited in to heal. Optimal EFT is much simpler than Official EFT, but still requires the "tuning in" to the specific issue being addressed, which is then given to the Unseen Therapist for healing.
Gary is an "avid" student of A Course in Miracles, and with Optimal EFT, he integrates the principles found in a Course in Miracles with EFT. He offers training and Certification in Optimal EFT with Sheri Baker, an EFT and Spiritual Coach, considered to be an advanced teacher of A Course in Miracles.

"I bought a copy of your book... I just wanted to say thank you for writing it. I was pretty desperate to feel better physically and emotionally when I got it, and since, I've experienced profound emotional healing. Thank you for giving me the healing messages I needed to hear, like a kind, loving mother."
